Synopsis of Supporting Documents
Antarctic Research Application Form
All researchers wishing to undertake projects in Antarctica, the Subantarctic or Australia, or who wish to apply for an Australian Antarctic Science (AAS) Grant, must complete an Antarctic Research Application Form accessible above.
Applications should be completed on screen and submitted online. Applicants should consult with their Program Leader and refer to the relevant guidelines and supporting documents when planning and completing project applications.
For queries about the application process or if you have queries relating to use of the form, email the ANARE Science Planning & Coordination Section of the Australian Antarctic Division.
Guidelines for Antarctic Research Applications
The information contained in these Guidelines is essential for all users of the online Antarctic Research Application Form. Links to specific guidelines are also provided, where appropriate, within the form. They contain many helpful hints and supporting information. It is important that applicants refer to the Guidelines to ensure that all the information required by the various assessment committees is submitted.
Science Strategic Plan
This document contains the current five-year Strategic Science Plan. One of the three criteria against which research proposals are assessed is relevance to the goals of the strategic plans. You are required to discuss the relevance of your project proposal to the strategic plan with the relevant Program Leader before you submit your application.
Transport Schedule
This schedule should be used as a guide only, bearing in mind the extreme weather conditions and unexpected transport problems that can arise in Antarctica.
Guidelines for Australian Antarctic Research involving Animal Experimentation or the use of Ionising Radiation
If your proposal involves the use of animals or ionising radiation, these guidelines contain essential information to assist you in completing your application form. The document also contains a series of guidelines and practices which are recommended for use by researchers in the Antarctic or Subantarctic region when handling animals or ionising radiation.
Failure to provide the necessary information may result in delays in assessing your application or even in the rejection of your proposal.
